20 data points evaluated per bike

The Diamondback 510Sr Recumbent Bike is Diamondback Fitness’s lowest-priced recumbent bike for 2015. (It’s a simpler version of the 910 Sr Recumbent Bike, which offers double the resistance.) Motivating its owners with low-stress yet effective exercise sessions, the Diamondback 510Sr is loaded with 20 preset workouts and offers 16 levels of resistance. Like other recumbent bikes, it especially targets people who have back pain, joint pain or foot pain — but its reclining frame feels good for all.

The Diamondback 510Sr Recumbent Bike normally sells online for $799, shipping included.

Here are pros and cons to consider about this purchase.

The Great

The Diamondback 510Sr Recumbent Bike generally satisfies its owners. Here are some of its selling points.

  • Quiet Operation: Diamondback Fitness uses magnetic drives. Partly because their magnetic resistance is frictionless, Diamondback bikes are known for quiet operation.
  • Recumbent Chair: This bike’s seat is chair-like. It has a tall supportive back, and it’s made from a mesh material for ventilation. The recumbent seat is supported by a strong metal chair frame so it doesn’t feel flimsy.
  • Exercise Data: Workout data are shown on a multicolor LCD. The display uses partitions to show more than one data point at a time.
  • Preset Fitness Programs: The console is loaded with 20 workouts to guide calorie burn and endurance training. “QuickSet” keys make starting a program fast and easy. The workouts have preset speeds and resistance levels, or are controlled by heart rate, but trainees can adjust the programs to be more challenging or less challenging.
  • Adjustable Console: The console and attached armrests can be tilted to accommodate trainees of different heights.
  • Adjustable Seat: The Diamondback 510Sr bike seat can be moved forward and back, up and down to accommodate most adult heights. However, it leaves out people at the shorter end of the spectrum.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: Contact grips are included for heart rate monitoring. The data can be used with heart rate controlled programs, which make it easier to exercise at your target heart rate.
  • Audio: Enjoy MP3 connectivity! An iPod-compatible headphone jack and speakers are built into Diamondback recumbent bikes.
  • Device Charger:The USB port for audio can also charge phones and other devices.
  • Magazine Rack: This bike’s foldaway media rack is convenient for holding a magazine. However, it isn’t sized to hold a tablet computer.
  • Water Bottle Holder: A water bottle holder is optional.
  • Cooling Fans: The Diamondback bike console’s personal cooling fans promote endurance. They have variable speed.
  • High Capacity: The 510Sr Recumbent Bike is marked with a 300-pound user weight capacity.
  • Warranty: The bike is sold with limited lifetime coverage for the frame and brake, three years for parts, and a year of labor. That’s a pretty good deal. However, some parts (wear parts) are only covered for 90 days.

The Not-So-Great:

Complaints about this product’s design and quality are generally minor. For instance, the manual mode is preset to last 30 minutes, and if you want to exercise longer, your data tracking starts over… Another issue is the display: Some customers say that the display is too bright and others say it’s too dim! In any case, Diamondback customer service is generally helpful and replaces faulty parts in a timely manner.

Here are some potential drawbacks of buying the Diamondback 510Sr.

  • Moderate Resistance: The highest resistance level here isn’t super-powerful. Advanced cyclists might prefer the Diamondback 910Sr with 32-pound flywheel.
  • Not for Short People: For people 5′ 3″ and under, the pedals on the 510Sr might be placed too far from the seat. Adding a back pillow could be a solution.
  • Assembly: Owners commonly report that this machine takes two or three hours to assemble. That’s longer than average for a recumbent bike.
  • Large Size: Like other recumbent bikes, the Diamondback demands more space than upright bikes. Its footprint measures 64″ L x 23″ W.

Who Should Ride the Diamondback 510Sr Recumbent Bike?

The recumbent Diamondback 510Sr is best for beginners, intermediate-level athletes and people who have body pain or are in physical rehabilitation. This bike is most comfortably sized for people of average and taller heights.

The Bottom Line

The Diamondback 510Sr Recumbent Bike is an ok buy. With smooth spinning, moderate resistance and ample programming, it’s a comfortable ride for rehabilitative training, muscle toning and general healthy living.
